Kermit the Frog

Kermit the Frog

Kermit, a hand-and-rod puppet created in 1955, was the Muppet character most like the puppeteer Henson himself. Kermit was master of ceremonies, comic, and crusader for tolerance in Henson's many creative endeavors. These included the children's TV show Sesame Street, started in 1969 and continuing today, and The Muppet Show, 1976-1980. The brilliant zaniness Jim Henson bestowed on the Muppets gave the world an enduring legacy of glee.
